Opium is a lush, botanical sushi restaurant and bar off the Murat Toptani walking street in central Tirana, open since 2014, where a hand-painted floral ceiling, terracotta velvet sofas and garden-facing windows set a moody, greenhouse-like scene. The kitchen turns out precise nigiri, sashimi and signature rolls alongside Asian small plates, with a full bar for cocktails and wine.

Sliding into a velvet banquette under that painted canopy of flowers, a slate of glossy nigiri in front of you, the room feels like a hideaway tucked behind the ivy. It is an easy pick for a long, low-lit dinner over sushi and cocktails.
