Restorant Tradicional Urat is a family-run traditional restaurant on the hillside beside Gjirokastër Castle, with a glassed-in terrace looking over the stone houses of the old town. The kitchen sticks to home-style Albanian cooking: qifqi rice balls, byrek, stuffed vegetables, moussaka and meat from the grill, served in generous portions.

Why We Love It

The dining room is lined with old copper, wooden tools and shelves of raki, and the view from the terrace takes in the whole of old Gjirokastër as the sun drops behind the hills. Plates of qifqi and grilled meat arrive quickly and generously, and a glass of house raki or mountain tea usually appears without being asked for.
